I would like to make two comments about the article, "Good Therapy" by Mike Koch in the July/August 2004 issue.
While I appreciated what I learned about ideal therapy pools from Koch's perspective, I would like it if the writers for Aquatics International would not use the term "wheelchair-bound" patients.
It is a phrase that denotes that the person is passive, shadowed over by their wheelchair. It is a very old-school term in the medical model. It relays a pity factor that does not empower people with disabilities. Most disability culture and disability study texts and articles have stayed away from that term for now.
