Holograms to become compulsory on US ID documents.

The US Department of Homeland Security has published Minimum Standards for Drivers Licences and Identification Cards Acceptable by Federal Agencies for Official Purposes, a formal consultation document that includes a recommendation for all US ID documents to feature a diffractive device.

Following this consultation, the Department will issue minimum standards for ID documents so that they meet the requirements of the REAL ID Act (passed in 2005 as a means of improving the security of identity document issuance in light of the fact that all but one of the 9/11 hijackers had obtained at least one form of US ID documentation).
