There hasn't been as much excitement about alcohol in this country since Prohibition was repealed in 1933. Then, federal revenuers were busy chopping holes in stills and dynamiting vats holding hundreds of gallons of mash--a fermenting mixture of yeast and corn. Today government has a rekindled interest in alcohol, but this time it is proposing we build bigger stills and vats with thousands of gallons of mash in order to make the active ingredient in corn "likker"--ethanol.
