The second-largest electric power generator in the U.S., American Electric Power (AEP), plans to retrofit some of its power plants with post-combustion CO2 capture systems and intends to sequester the carbon dioxide starting in 2011, company Chairman, President and CEO Michael Morris told delegates at the Morgan Stanley Global Electricity & Energy Conference held in New York City in March.
AEP, one of the founding members of the Chicago Climate Exchange, said the U.S. should take a leadership role in developing a new international approach to climate change that will address growing emissions from all nations, including developing countries such as China and India.
Towards that end, Morris said AEP is investing in a portfolio of greenhouse gas reduction methods and plans to retrofit some electric generation plants with post-combustion technology that promises the same environmental benefits to users that an integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) plant...
