Apr. 4--APPLE VALLEY -- The Apple Valley tennis team defeated Hesperia 12-6 Tuesday to earn its first Mojave River League victory.
The Sun Devils went undefeated in MRL play en route to a league championship last year. With most of that team graduated, new players have stepped up. Against the Scorpions, all three Apple Valley singles players -- Ethan Stockton, Donnie Wicks and Daniel Song -- swept their sets.
It was Song's first three-set sweep of the season. Andrew Luhar and Dustin Miller took two of three sets at No. 2 doubles.
The Sun Devils (3-3, 1-1 MRL) will face cross-town rival Granite Hills on Friday at 9 a.m. in a match originally scheduled for the afternoon.
