U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has reiterated repeatedly that fighting gangs is one of his priorities. As part of his anti-gang efforts, he invited police officials from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Belize to the United States on February 7 to work out cooperative proposals on transnational gangs like MS-13 and the 18th Street Gang. He also formed a transnational anti-gang unit to aid Central American countries and to coordinate anti-gang efforts.
