Glaciers expand and contract all the time, and while some glaciers are shrinking at present, others are growing. In New Zealand, for instance, the Franz Josef and Fox glaciers are advancing. According to a January 21 report in The Press (New Zealand), "Franz Josef Glacier Guides base manager Tom Arnold estimated the Franz Josef and the Fox had advanced hundreds of metres in the past year." Meanwhile, in India, the Hindustan Times reported on February 11 that glaciers in the Himalayas appear stable, contrary to earlier reports that claimed that Himalayan glaciers were retreating more than 30 feet per year.
