NEW DELHI, April 2 Asia Pulse - As it prepares to participate in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) process for the first time, the European Union (EU) has offered its expertise and experience to help Asian nations implement the South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA) agreement, which has failed to take off despite being finalised over a year ago.

The 25-nation EU said its own example had shown that by working together, regional groupings can fulfil their potential and contribute to solving global and regional issues.

In a special message on the eve of the 14th SAARC Summit to be held in New Delhi on April 3-4, EU Commissioner for External Relations Benita Ferrero-Waldner expressed confidence that the meet would provide a "decisive opportunity" to advance regional integration in South Asia.
