The Jerome and Rita Gans Collection of English Silver has been a bright star in the constellation of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond since it first went on view in 1988. It is an outstanding selection of domestic silver, largely marked by three of the great names of London production: Paul de Lamerie, Paul Storr, and the firm R. and S. Garrard and Company. The Ganses, both New Yorkers, assembled most of the collection over a thirty-year period.
