There are three stages in a mother's life: Pre-children. Children. Children in school. Before Silda Wall Spitzer had children, her life looked like this-work, work, and work. "One year," says the pretty blonde wife of New York's newest governor, "I billed 3,300 hours." That comes to approximately 9.04 hours a day, which doesn't seem too awful for a corporate lawyer, especially one who was employed by Skadden, Arps, the prestigious New York law firm. But then you realize that number includes weekends. So she got the math wrong, right? "No." She shakes her head. "I think there were two weekends that year when I did not work."
