LUFTHANSA Cargo's new boss, just eight weeks into the job, brings with him a pilot's licence and experience of how to keep a steady course during turbulence.

Carsten Spohr, while observing the '100-day rule' which protects newly installed chief executives from early brushes with the press, nevertheless displayed a true flightdeck calm from the podium last week.

He approached the topic of a potential night-time flight ban at Frankfurt airport with just the right mix of firm but subtle diplomacy.

Speaking through a translator, Mr Spohr told journalists the proposed ban between 11pm and 5am would 'threaten the very existence of Lufthansa Cargo'.
