The parity bill--proposed legislation that would require insurance companies to treat addiction and mental health disorders the same way they treat other diseases--got a boost from the Betty Ford Center and Caron Treatment Centers, which joined with Representatives Patrick Kennedy (D-R.I.) and Jim Ramstad (R-Minn.) last week in promoting the Paul Wellstone Mental Health Equitable Treatment Act.

"The House leadership should be ashamed that Congress will once again end a legislative session without passing legislation to end the discrimination against those with mental health and substance abuse disorders," Representative Kennedy said at the September 21 press briefing …
