The reputation of Louis C. Tiffany (1848-1933) rests in large measure on the richly colored leaded-glass windows made by his firm Tiffany Studios in New York City, but glass mosaics were an equally important and successful part of his establishment. (1) These, too, were noted for their deeply saturated colors and lustrous surfaces. The mosaic-encrusted walls, columns, and altar of the chapel Tiffany exhibited at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893 and the fabulously rich mosaics that adorned the entrance to the Henry O.
