BRUSSELS maritime affairs commissioner Joe Borg indicated yesterday that he wanted to oversee the European Union's maritime military might as well as the maritime industries.

Future maritime policy 'may also be extended to other areas, such as the military dimension of maritime policy, to the integrated management of territorial waters and even to joint work on customs, coastguard activities or security control,' Mr Borg told an audience in Malta.

The commissioner is leading a maritime task force that is expected to come up with a series of policy proposals later this year. …
