SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- California girls would need human papilloma virus vaccinations to enter the 7th grade under legislation proposed by Assemblyman Ed Hernandez (D-Baldwin Park). A second new bill, by Assemblywoman Noreen Evans (D-Santa Rosa), would require health insurers to cover the cost of the vaccinations.
Hernandez and Evans announced their bills this morning at UC Davis Cancer Center.
Nearly 1,100 California women will be diagnosed with cervical cancer this year and nearly 400 will die of the disease.
