Builders ready to break ground on Banning Lewis Ranch in Colorado Springs.

"The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated," Mark Twain wrote upon hearing that his obituary was prematurely published in 1897 in the London Times, 13 years before he died. Likewise, speculation that new home construction at the Banning Lewis Ranch has stalled was put to rest this week by the development's owners. John Cassiani, vice president of project operations for the 22,000-acre master planned community, said that three builders -- Classic Homes, John Laing Homes and Capital Pacific Homes -- will begin work in May on a model home complex in the 330-acre Northtree village. First move-ins are expected by mid-October. Capital Pacific Homes, which has built more than 30,000 homes in California, Texas, Arizona and currently operates 13 sales offices in Denver, will mark its return to the market.
