A recently-discovered letter from T E Lawrence to his friend Henry Williamson has shed more light on the years before the war hero's death.

Lawrence of Arabia, who rose to world celebrity as architect of the Arab Revolt during the First World War, boasts in the friendly note from 1933 about his love of powerful motorbikes.

It was a motorcycle crash that ended Lawrence's life near his Dorset home, Clouds Hill - and conspiracy theories quickly took hold. Some suspected that the British secret services organised his death because he had become an annoyance to those in power.
