ARTS Minister John O'Donoghue may be well advised to vet his phonelines as rehearsals for this year's Wexford Opera Festival kick off.

British comic Rory Bremner is expected to travel to the sonorous south-east when a German opera is staged at the festival for the first time.

Bremner's English translation of Kurt Weill's 'play with music' 'Der Silbersee' (the Silver Lake) is the opening act at this year's festival.

Bremner, a master of impersonation, tricked British Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett when he rang her and pretended to be British Chancellor Gordon Brown.
