TOKYO, March 1 Asia Pulse - Nippon Suisan Kaisha Ltd. (TSE:1332) plans to boost its salmon and trout breeding operations in Chile by 50 per cent to roughly 50,000 tons a year in around four years.
With fish consumption in the West rising amid fears of bird flu and mad cow disease, the company aims to increase its salmon and trout exports from Chile to countries other than Japan.
It hopes such shipments will account for 50 per cent overall in four years, up from 30 per cent at present.
