CANBERRA, March 1 Asia Pulse - The federal government has agreed to set up an inquiry into the impact of the proposed Qantas (ASX:QAN) sale on the airline's subsidiary, Jetstar.

Government senators today backed a parliamentary committee's recommendation for an inquiry to examine the Qantas Sale (Keep Jetstar Australian) Amendment Bill 2007.

The bill, introduced by Family First senator Steve Fielding, aims to ensure budget carrier Jetstar and other Qantas subsidiaries, such as the flying kangaroo's catering arm, are not sold to foreign investors if an $A11 billion ($US8.66 billion) takeover bid for Qantas is successful.
