MELBOURNE, March 1 Asia Pulse - BHP Billiton (ASX:BHP) expects its Corridor Sands titanium project in Mozambique to move to a feasibility study in the 2008 calendar year.
Diamonds and specialty products customer sector group president Alberto Calderon told a briefing in Sydney that production will be sooner, rather than later.
"The probabilities of moving into feasibility are very high...they weren't a year ago," he said.
"We're going to truck and rail the ore into Mozal."
Mr Calderon said he aims to leverage existing expertise by putting the project's smelters in Mozal.
BHP Billiton's Mozal aluminium plant, near the capital Maputo, already has required infrastructure.
"The timing on Corridor Sands - I would say sonner rather than later," Mr Calderon said.
