Feb. 27--WILKESBORO A Wilkes County jury convicted Steven Craig Miller yesterday of first-degree murder in the killing of Terry Tyrone Carlton at Carlton's home in Wilkesboro on Dec. 2, 2004. Testimony will continue today in the sentencing phase of the trial. Jurors will decide whether Miller, 37, will get the death penalty or life in prison without parole. He had served nearly 10 years in prison for a second-degree murder conviction in 1991. Jurors had deliberated for nearly nine hours Thursday and Friday. They were in the jury room yesterday for about 40 minutes before telling a deputy that they had reached a verdict.
