Teachers at a school devastated by an arson attack have vowed it will "rise from the ashes".

Staff and pupils at Sir Henry Cooper School in Thorpepark Road, Orchard Park, were distraught when they discovered about GBP500,000 of damage had been caused in the blaze on Friday night.

At its height, 40 firefighters battled to save the rest of the school.

The fire is being treated as arson and a 12-year-old boy was arrested by police on Saturday.

He has since been questioned and released on police bail until later this month.

The school remained closed today.
