Instrument delivery was associated with a significantly increased risk for asymptomatic subdural hematoma in one group of term newborns, Dr. Elspeth H. Whitby of the University of Sheffield (England) and her associates reported.
MRI scans were performed on 111 babies within 48 hours of their birth at Central Sheffield University Hospitals between March 2001 and November 2002.
All of the babies were born at term and did not show any symptoms of subdural hematoma.
