Bach: The Sonatas and Partitas for Violin Solo John Hollo-way, baroque violin (ECM New Series 1909/ 10 B0007621-02)

Violinist John Holloway brings a light touch to these venerable works. On the baroque violin, the music seems a bit more playful and colorful than it sometimes sounds on a more modern instrument. How much of that is Holloway and how much is the instrument itself, I am not sure, but the end result is certainly enjoyable.

This is music that can be enjoyed for sheer listening pleasure but can also serve as marvelous music to work by. No, I am not recommending it as mere background music--it demands much more respect than that. What I am saying ...
