Feb. 7--History can be loud, and history can be quiet. Last night, Winston-Salem's basketball history took a giant leap on soft feet and landed with barely a squeak. Wake Forest defeated Winston-Salem State 87-71 in a spirited game that evolved, somewhat haphazardly, against the backdrop of a modest and curiously lethargic crowd. The official Joel Coliseum attendance of 8,625 did not translate into 8,625 enthusiastic voices, partly because of the notably small contingents of Wake Forest students and WSSU supporters of all ages.
