Feb. 3--VICTORVILLE -- Victor Valley's Tyquan Braddock scored a school-record 46 points Friday night to lead the Jackrabbits' boys basketball team to a 73-67 nonleague victory over Hesperia.
"It was enjoyable to watch," Victor Valley (8-16) coach Matt Denny said. "The only problem was we were down (by 18 points) at one point. We played some great defense and (Braddock) helped bring us back."
Braddock, who shot 22 of 28 from the field, broke the previous record of 44 points held by Paul Henderson and Jason Bragg, Denny said.
"He just had a night he'll never forget and he should enjoy it," Hesperia coach Sergio Lugo said. The Scorpions held a 40-18 lead before the 'Rabbits rallied. "You've got to give them credit," Lugo said. "They were down by 18 and they never gave up." Anthony Mathis finished with 16 points and nine rebounds for the Scorpions (16-8), while Jaron Strickland had 14 points, six rebounds and four assists.
