ROYAL Navy divers from ice patrol vessel HMS Endurance are due to inspect the hull of cruise ship Nordkapp, which briefly ran aground near Deception Island in Antarctica on Tuesday.
They will aid in assessing damage to the 1996-built Norwegian-flagged ship, owned by the Hurtigruten Group, which which was successfully refloated under its own power.
A spokeswoman for Hurtigruten said yesterday it was too early to assess the cause of the accident but there was no mechanical failure.
The 11,386 gt ship had 294 passengers and 76 crew on board when the incident occurred but there were no injuries.
Oil protection equipment has been deployed but there had been no leakage of oil from the ship according to the cruise company.
