Working in the insurance sector can mean long hours, and job hunting is a time-consuming activity - not a great combination. The few hours before or after work are precious so it is important to maximise your chances of finding a job while minimising impact on your social life - and without making it obvious within your current role.
One of the biggest temptations is to take advantage of your company's internet access by surfing the web for a new job during working hours or using your work email address to correspond with a prospective employer, job board or recruitment consultancy. Tempting though it might be, the consequences could be catastrophic. Your current employer would be perfectly within their rights to discipline you for breaching their email policy, so make sure you set up and use a personal email account in your own time. Having said that, if your existing personal email address is along the lines of foxylady@aol.net or lagerlover@yahoo.com then you'd be well advised to set up a new account also. Remember that your email address will be one of the first things an employer or recruitment consultant will notice and this could make you appear more than a little unprofessional.
