An NHS Trust was held liable for injuries inflicted on nursing staff by a patient at a high security hospital. Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust ("the Trust") had failed to implement a policy recommended by the Safety and Security in Ashworth, Broadmoor and Rampton Hospitals Directions 2000. If they had done so, the doctors would have carried out a risk assessment and confined the patient to her room at night due to the exceptionally high risk of the patient causing injury to others. This would have meant that the attack on the hospital staff, which took place at night, would not have occurred.
