SOLOMONS TO SEEK FINANCIAL AID FROM US
HONIARA - The Solomon Islands Government has announced its plan to seek special financial assistance from the United States of America.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Patteson Oti made the announcement after he met with the PNG-based US Ambassador to Solomon Islands Ms Leslie Rowe.
JAPAN'S OUTLYING AREAS, YOUNG SAW BETTER JOB CLIMATE IN '06
TOKYO - The average unemployment rate for 2006 improved in eight of 10 regions in Japan and continued to fall for younger people, according to data released Tuesday by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Nationally, the average unemployment rate fell 0.3 percentage point to 4.1 per cent, marking a fourth straight year of improvement and returning to the level recorded in 1998. The jobless rate had risen from 1998 due to worsening employment conditions, peaking at 5.4 per cent in 2002. It has improved since then, thanks in part to a turnaround in corporate earnings.
AUSTRALIAN SKILLED VACANCIES INDEX MOVES UP 1.4 PCT IN JANUARY
CANBERRA - The Federal Department of Employment and Workplace Relations' skilled vacancies index rose by 1.4 per cent in January.
The trend index was at 110.3, which was 7.0 per cent higher than in January 2006.
INDONESIA'S INFLATION RATE TIPPED TO SLOW IN JANUARY
JAKARTA - Economists have predicted the country's inflation rate will be around 0.7 per cent-0.9 per cent this month as against 1.21 per cent in December, 2006.
They said inflation will decline further in February and March with the coming rice harvest.
