Crackdowns lead to drop in violent crime.

VIOLENT crime in Peterborough has dropped, according to Home Office figures.

Reports of crimes such as robbery and assault dropped overall last year by more than 1,000 incidents.

There were 5,144 reported violent crimes for April 2005 to April 2006, compared with 6,257 from April 2004 to March 2005.

Police say a series of high-profile operations to drive down vicious incidents in Peterborough, including a crackdown on robbers and a campaign to get knives off the streets, have led to the drop.
