Numbers don't lie. They can be very blunt and painfully candid.

The numbers do not bode well for a Lakewood Ranch High football team that is starving for a regular- season victory it hasn't tasted for 377 days.

Numbers say good football teams at any level have to be able to run the ball. In the NFL, the three teams with the largest ratio of rushes to passes are a combined 7-2. One of those teams, Pittsburgh, lost only to Super Bowl champ New England. The other two are Tampa Bay and Atlanta.

Closer to home, the numbers speak louder. Lakewood Ranch and Charlotte High are averaging more passing yards per game than any team …
