Boys Roundup: Atkins tops West Stokes 62-57; Mount Airy downs East Surry.

Jan. 20--Atkins 62, West Stokes 57: Shane Allen scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Atkins held on to first place in the North State 2-A with a win at West Stokes. Joe Cole added 13 points for Atkins and Travis Clark had 10. Tyler Newell led West Stokes with 24 points, including three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. Newell's final 3-pointer cut the lead to 59-57. West Stokes had a chance to tie the game with 17 seconds left, but missed two foul shots. The Bears (14-5, 10-1) rolled to a 36-26 halftime lead and put the game away in the third quarter with a 15-7 run that increased their lead to 18 points. Robby Reid added 11 points and 12 rebounds for Mount Airy. Marcus Martin scored 14 and Adam Parker chipped in with 10 points for East (14-5, 10-2). Webb 9, Robby Reid 11 North Davidson 65, Mount Tabor 56: The third quarter was the difference for North Davidson, which used a 15-5 run to change the course of the game and beat Mount Tabor in a Central Piedmont 4-A game last night. The teams entered the game tied for third place in the conference. At halftime Mount Tabor (10-8, 4-4) entered the locker room with a three-point advantage. The momentum shifted in the third quarter when North outscored Mount Tabor took control. Howard Hurt led the way for North with 19 points. …
