Jan. 18--Schools from Shandon to Atascadero are expected to reopen today, a day after they were closed when early-morning rain in freezing temperatures made roadways icy and too dangerous for travel. The closure marked the first time in 18 years that Atascadero campuses had to be shut down because of bad weather. Ice on Highway 101 may have been the cause of a single-car crash that killed a 49-year-old woman in San Miguel. Elsewhere, Highway 166 between Santa Maria and New Cuyama was closed for several hours because of ice and traffic accidents.
