Jan. 15--The Forsyth Invitational will turn 60 this summer. That's quite an achievement for one of the longest running golf tournaments in the state. "Yeah, we are pretty proud of it, so that's why we want it to continue and thrive," said Dick Butler, the tournament director who works for the city recreation department. "I don't think there's a longer-running recreation activity that we do." This year's tournament will be held Aug. 3-5 at Grandview, Winston Lake and Tanglewood Park's Championship Course. The tournament's committee voted on where to hold the tournament last week and also agreed on other changes to the tournament.
One change was to put a limit on the field of 200. In the past the limit was 240 players, but because participation has been down the past two years the committee agreed to reduce the field. Mark Kriston won his first Forsyth last year with 201 players in the field. That was a drop-off of some 20 players from the year before. In 2004 there were 240 players in the …
