Since Title IX, the number of women collegiate athletes has increased dramatically, but the number of female head coaches of women's teams has decreased to just 44.1%.

Many women cite the lack of a work/life balance in college athletics as a deterrent to staying in the field, says life coach Jean Conway. "They're saying 'I can't do this job 24/7 and be an effective mother, wife or partner.'"

She suggests that women use mentoring to study others who have advanced in the field, to learn how they've found balance. "Women who have come before us have got the lay of the land, and their knowledge can be beneficial," said Conway. "This can help women to stay ...
