Transitioning to department chair can be difficult. You're moving from faculty into administration; suddenly, the focus is on more than just students, research and publishing. And often there's no one to show you the ropes.
To help others new to campus leadership, Dr. Lana Danielson and Dr. Laura Schulte, both newer administrators in the department of teacher education at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, listed "The Top 10 Things We Learned about Being a Department Chair." They presented it at the University of Nebraska's conference on Women in Educational Leadership in Lincoln in October.
