Ray Herrera, an employee with Davis Waste Removal, in Davis, California, was chatting with two neighbors in front of an apartment several doors down from his own on the evening of July 20. Their conversation was interrupted suddenly by the yelling of Naomi Morris.

"She just came out yelling 'Help me, help me,'" Herrera told the Davis Enterprise.

Mrs. Morris had been changing her 23-month-old granddaughter's clothes in an upstairs bedroom, when little Denicia picked up the plastic cap to a candy lipstick and put it in her mouth. The toddler almost immediately stopped breathing, her eyes rolling backward.
