Near the beginning of Bill Condon's movie adaptation of the musical "Dreamgirls," Jimmy Early (Eddie Murphy), a soul singer loosely based on James Brown, meets his three new backup singers: Effie (Jennifer Hudson), Deena (Beyonce Knowles), and Lorrell (Anika Noni Rose).
