Waste Management, Inc. (WM) has been in the business of producing landfill methane gas for electricity production for more than 20 years and is in the process of stepping up its efforts to produce even more of the nation's renewable energy to the extent that its electricity can displace the need for one or two fossil fuel plants.

"We started our first plant (landfill gas to electricity) back in the late 80's", Paul Pabor, WM's Vice President of Renewable Energy told GN .

Landfill gas is produced naturally from the landfill as waste decomposes. The gas produced is similar to natural gas in that its is generally half methane and half carbon dioxide. WM as well...
