THE stormy end to 2006 has put two of today's New Year meetings in severe doubt. And conditions at Cheltenham are set to be the most testing in nearly 12 years. Exeter must pass an inspection at 7.30am if racing is to go ahead in the afternoon. One of the races will be screen on Channel 4 as part of the Tote Scoop6 - the first time the terrestrial channel has covered the meeting. The track is currently raceable but there was a significant amount of rainfall forecast. Clerk of the course Barry Johnson said: "It's raceable at the moment. "We've had 2 inches of rain over the weekend but the forecast isn't very good." Over in Ireland, it's the same story at Tramore who also inspect. Punchestown was only allowed to go ahead yesterday after lengthy consultations between stewards, trainers and jockeys. Cheltenham have not posted heavy ground for so long, that everyone expects plenty of watering to take place before the Festival in March.
