NT DOLLAR MUST BE ONLY CURRENCY CIRCULATING IN TAIWAN: OFFICIAL.
TAIPEI, Jan 1 Asia Pulse - Taiwan cannot allow China's currency, the renminbi, to circulate in Taiwan and must insist that the New Taiwan dollar be the only currency used in its territory to symbolize national sovereignty, Taiwan's top monetary official said Sunday.
Perng Fai-nan, governor of Taiwan's Central Bank of China, the country's central bank, said that the reason why Taiwan soon plans to allow currency exchange between Chinese renminbi and the Taiwan dollar is to facilitate the practice of a new measure that would allow each Chinese visitor to carry 20,000 yuan renminbi.
Last week, Perng had said repeatedly that the time is ripe now to allow the exchange between the renminbi and the Taiwan dollar.
