UNITED NATIONS, Jan 1 Asia Pulse - Ban Ki-moon, who is set to begin his first day in office as the U.N. Secretary-General on Jan. 2 here, called for his home country South Korea to play a larger role in the international society.
The 62-year-old former foreign minister also renewed his resolution as the U.N.'s eighth secretary-general in his brief Korean-language New Year message for his countrymen.
"From now on, South Korea should play a role and make a contribution for the international society, including the U.N., to match the level of its economy as one of the world's top 10," Ban said.
