Olivia Forms a Band is a wonderful children's book about a young pig with a very creative mind. Olivia begins her day, like many children, looking for a missing sock. Her family is going to see a fireworks display, and she is hopeful that there will be a marching band there. When Olivia learns that there will not be a band performing, she sets out to put together her own "one pig" marching band using an unusual collection of items and instruments found around the house.
This is a great story for young children about the excitement of music and using creativity. This story is not about traditional music lessons or a composer's life, but it truly does give a fantastic picture of using one's own mind and resources to create music from within.
