Dec. 20--PIKE ROAD -- Pike Road nearly doubled in size Tuesday night after an election among 10 neighborhoods north of the town brought the population to more than 4,000.

"For us, it's just a huge compliment," said Pike Road Mayor Gordon Stone. "We just take it as a sign of reinforcement in Pike Road."

The election, held at Ellis' Quick Stop on the corner of Marler Road and U.S. 80, drew 363 voters, 337 of whom voted to be annexed into Pike Road.

Stone said 35 percent of registered voters turned out for the election.
