If you Google "intercollegiate athletics" plus "integration" you'll get more than 100,000 hits. It's a hot topic these days, among the recommendations of a recent NCAA task force and on the agenda for the next NCAA national convention.

Debbie Lazorik, director of athletics, physical education and recreation at Marietta College OH since 1991, spent her fall 2006 sabbatical on a project with NCAA to promote integration in Division III. She attended three national conferences and visited eight schools.

Meeting with coaches, student athletes, athletic administrators and the person to whom the AD reports, she asked:

* How do you define integration?

* What does integration look like?

* What challenges do you meet?

* What strategies work for you?
