Towson University in Ohio is trying to boost its male enrollment numbers by accepting students with low high school grades but high SAT scores. Far more males than females fit this profile.
Their new formula allows the school to admit more men without actually making gender a criterion. "We made a determination two years ago, because this was a group with a large number of males, that it would help us to continue to bring males into the university," admitted Deborah Leather, associate provost of Towson. Men now make up 42% of the U.S. college students and 40% of Towson's students.
