The University of Michigan will "consider every legal option available" to fight a ban on the use of affirmative-action preferences that Michigan voters approved in November, according to President Mary Sue Coleman.
Known as Proposal 2, the ban passed with 58% of the vote. It applies to public colleges and other state agencies.
"Diversity matters at Michigan, today more than any day in our history," Coleman said after the vote. "I will not stand by while the very heart and soul of this great university is threatened. We are Michigan and we are diversity."
