Dec. 17--RALEIGH -- In the parlance of political journalists, Mike Walden is one of the "usual suspects."

If there's a story about the state's economy to be written, Walden is one of three or four economists we interview. If there's a new state-tax proposal, editorial writers will call Walden for an educated take. If there's a new state-tax reform commission -- and there is -- then Walden's likely on it. He is.
